The house that stands on the property that is now known as "Shady Hill Farm" was actually built in Kansas before the Land Rush.  The house itself was placed on a horse drawn wagon and taken to it's current location.  (Can you imagine?!)

It served as a post office and general store for the town of Aline.  The property remained in the hands of the same family until recently when we purchased the house along with 5 acres.  The area around Aline is FULL of interesting history of founding families!

The house and property is home to several "ghosts" from days gone by.  They are in no way threatening, but instead are rather comforting in their presence.  They cared deeply for this house and land and it shows in the woodwork in the interior of the house and the condition of the land itself.  They seem to enjoy our living here, continuing their pioneering dream of making a go from the land.

The Thursday before the wedding we and our guests found ourselves in the cellar (fraidy hole) twice due to tornados.  Everyone was excited and my sister wanted to take a picture of us huddled there in the darkness.  She (and us) were surprised at the photo that showed on her screen.  Take a look below and see what you think....to us it appears to be a woman with a blanket over her head, in her right arm she is holding an infant around it's waist (chubby cheeks and pouty lips included) with fingers laced.  The baby appears to be looking off to its' right.  (Of course, all of the "rights" are our "lefts".)
